    Feeding development - typical feeding development during early childhood

    About: During the first few weeks to months of life, feeding gradually changes from a reflexive to learnt behaviour. Typical feeding development refers to a pattern and progression of feeding skills and behaviours that are accepted as normal for the age and developmental stage of a child. This eLearning Module is designed to explain the features of typical feeding development at different ages and stages of early childhood. It explores the different domains of feeding development (Medical, Nutrition and Feeding Skills [physical, oral motor, cognitive, sensory and motor, psychosocial]) and their complex interplay which should be considered during clinical assessment. Both child and caregiver have important roles and division of responsibilities in supporting feeding development.

    Intended audience: Health professionals in Australia working with young children and their families e.g. Junior medical staff, maternal and child health nurses, nursing students, allied health students

    Management of Adolescent Asthma

    About: There have been recent changes to recommendations for the management of asthma in adolescents. This module provides an overview of the new recommendations and strategies to support clinicians using them in practice.

    Intended audience: The module is designed for all clinicians seeing adolescents with asthma to support them in optimising patient care and education.

    Paediatric growth and growth charts

    About:  Children's growth is a very important marker of their overall health and development. Accurate growth assessment is one of the easiest ways to confirm the health and nutrition of children. This eLearning Module is designed to explain normal patterns of growth in childhood, best practices for measurement and monitoring of growth, practical use of growth charts that are recommended in Australia and recognition of patterns of growth that require further assessment and management.

    Intended audience:  Health professionals in Australia working with young children and their families e.g. Junior medical staff, maternal and child health nurses, nursing students, allied health students

    RCH Allied Health and Nursing Education Outreach Program

    About: This program aims to increase the confidence and competence of health professionals across Victoria and beyond by offering paediatric based education and training specifically tailored for regional and rural health sites. Several webinars are presented each month offering a range of topics, the recordings of which are available for viewing here.

    PIPER Paediatrics Advanced Resuscitation Program, Alexandra Health

    About: This program is aimed to support clinicians in metro and Rural organisations with the goal of extending your experience for unwell paediatric patients and developing a systematic approach to recognising and stabilizing a deteriorating Infant or Child.

    These eLearning Modules are designed to navigate the learner through the skills required in a deteriorating scenario.

    Point-of-care ultrasound

    About: The Point-of-care Ultrasound (POCUS) program has been implemented as a governance structure that oversees the use of POCUS. The Royal Children’s Hospital POCUS team have developed a training and credentialing framework for ultrasound use in procedures and diagnoses.  This program consists of learning modules and pre-assessment questions, which are pre-requisites for a practical session.

    Intended audience: This course is by invitation only.

    Human factors training

    About:  This course covers how human factors contribute to human error and uses human factor principles that aim to improve communication and clinical decision making. It discusses how team training can mitigate the impact of human factors on patient outcome.

    JRMO Medical Mentoring Program

    About: Mentoring is integral to the development of doctors in complex, pressured, work-based environments.  

    Drawing from corporate, and medical literature, focus groups, and survey data (JRMOs working at the RCH at the time), a model was designed by which junior doctors self-select a mentor based on a video introduction and brokering of the relationship.

    The Medical Mentoring Program online module looks at the stages in a mentor/mentee relationship where documentation is provided to ensure structure and format for the relationship.

    Intended audience: Medical Education Officer, Junior Registered Medical Officer, Registrars, Fellows
